Directly after noticing the approaching figures, Balan was hit by the stench. A stale, mechanical odor tinged with organic decay of all kinds. He ignored it best he could as they neared their apparently intended contacts, he was only half-way successful. Grennik stopped a good thirty feet from the welcoming committee. His arms were folded defensively across his chest, his hands dangling down within his large brown duster. They were loosely wrapped around his twin blaster pistols' grips. Balan glanced at him, seeing and feeling that he was tense and ready for trouble.

He felt the other mind push the message into his. Taken aback, it took him an extra moment to understand the message. "Do not be alarmed. I am a jedi knight. Zoronius. Been tracking illegal smuggling of jedi artifacts. These men can lead me to the brains behind it all. Please play along. No harm will come to you." It wasn't vicious, just forced. It felt very, urgent. He hadn't experienced such communication since his gentle, peaceful talks with his father. This was near to being a polar-opposite.

Balan hardened his mind against any possible attack, which wasn't very much. He was very good at making connections, not so good at shutting them out. He reached back out cautiously, but curious. "What are you talking about, "play along"?"

"John. . .at your service." At the stranger's voice Balan snapped back to reality, noticing the five figures in more detail. Three young barbaric looking men, a duros, a green twi'lek, and a fellow human. He identified the telepath who'd claimed to be a Jedi Knight. Lastly there was the man who broke the silence. Through the Force he felt that the man had something of a facade about him, beyond that he was completely unsure of him.

Grennik glanced back at his counterpart to tell him 'you better be ready.' He turned back to "John." Pausing before replying, he smirked at the corny secret greeting he'd been given for this contact. "Here I thought this was a self-service station."

The twi'lek spoke up. "I'm afraid not friend. You see, we represent a certain organization that has vested interests in obtaining certain items. It has come to our attention that you may posses one such item and possibly have the means to other items as well. It is our wish that you present us with one right now. As a sign of good faith and as payment for safe passage."

The duros followed: "If you would please present the lightsaber to our friend here (he motions to Zoronius) then he can verify that it is genuine and we can be on our way. We may contact you in the future for other help (his gaze shifts towards Balan). Or, if you wish. You could hand over any knowledge you may have on sith and jedi artifacts and you'll never be bothered by us again. What say you?"

Zoronius could feel the tension of the group rise. He reached out to the 'jedi's' mind. "They will try to take you regardless. Let them take you, but put up a fight. Make it look convincing."

The human stayed quiet. Observing the others. His hands already on his blasters. Set to stun

Zoronius reached out to Turkish. "Be ready. Do not engage the jedi."

Turkish rolled his eyes and quietly sighed. He hated pirates, and hated how they were always motivated by money. He felt it was a waste, to be considered all muscle but no brains.

The three pirates were standing behind him, and he immediately felt uncomfortable about the situation. Based on their aggressive request, the tension rose again. He felt the hairs on the back of his neck tickle, and he could hear himself heavily breathing. He was mentally preparing for the worst.

Zoronius reached out to Turkish. "Be ready. Do not engage the jedi."

Turkish casually glanced over to Zoronius and nodded. He pretended to yawn, and began to stretch his arms. Because of his unbuttoned jacket, the flaps in his coat open up as he stretched, revealing his alabaster pistols that were strapped in a twin gun holster, that was wrapped across his chest and had his pistols on either side.

Turkish wasn't telepathic like the jedi, but he hoped the gesture was strong enough to casually indicate he was ready for a tumble. He couldn't help but smirk.

Grennik wasn't surprised he didn't recieve the coded reply and it was obvious to him this wasn't the contact his Hutt buyer had set up for him. He or she had probably been killed already. Grennik tried to think of how to get out of this alive, and with his prize. He decided it was better not to cross a Hutt, at least not yet. Things could change real drastically if he didn't get away though. "Yeaaah. I don't think yours is the organization for me" he sarcastically replied as he begun to take moderate strides back to the ramp, keeping his front to the interlopers.

Balan turned halfway to him and took a step after him "wait. . ." he tried to stall him and buy himself time to think. His and mind and heart racing, as the situation slipped from his control. "Kid, if you're coming, you better follow me, now" the smuggler replied without stopping or taking his eyes off the other five men.

"Help me!" the young jedi cried out telepathically to the man who claimed to be a jedi knight, but he almost yelled it out loud to everyone. He didn't know what to do. He didn't want to pull his lightsaber on his possible friend, Grennik, or force his mind to do what he wanted him to.

The twi'lek and duros drew their weapons. The first a blaster pistol. The second a vibrosword.

The Human stated: "No, let them leave."

What no one noticed was, that in the commotion, the human shot a tracking device onto their hull.

((The human/bounty hunter will say this next part after Balan and Grennik depart)) "If it is of enough value to our boss then we can find them again."

Zoronius was worried he may have to reveal his jedi identity until the other human spoke up.

"Well," Zoronius said to the three thugs, "you can contact me when you have any relevant questions." He turns to Turkish. "Shall we go my friend?"

After they departed, he tried to telepathically send a message through the force to Balan. "They are tracking you. They will find you. My secure channel is 9zetaX23farenhiet. Contact me soon."

Turkish noticed the pirates drawing their weapons, and he instinctively reached inside his coat towards the holster to a pistol; its alabaster and bright silver lining had gleamed in the light. He focused on the one standing nearest to him, and was ready to quickly draw it and counterattack. They had remained motionless though, and refrained from starting a fight. Just as the tense moment had passed, Turkish sighed and slowly put his pistol back in its holster. He tossed a glance to Zoro, apologizing with his eyes for nearly starting a brawl.

Grennik and the kid had retreated back towards their ship, and Turkish watched as it left the dock and flew away. He sighed, turned to Zoronius, and shrugged.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After dismissing the three thugs, Turkish had insisted that they retreat back to his ship, to wait out in safety until they were going to find out the next step of what they needed to do.

Approaching the docking bay area, Turkish noticed a large Trandoshan in the distance, leaning against one of the landing legs of the ship. It hissed at him with disapproval from a distance.

"I know, I know, sorry I didn't keep you updated." Turkish started, "almost had to fight a couple of cocky thugs back there. It got tense once or twice in that little pow-wow." Approaching the ship and towards the bipedal lizard,  he motioned towards Zoronius.

"Zoro, meet Kresh. He's my first mate and best buddy." Turkish said. Before entering the ship, he turned to Kresh and added "Be nice now...." and disappeared through the cargo doors into the ship.

Kresh, about 7 feet tall and big arms crossed across his chest, looked down on Zoronius with an intensive glare. Snarling, he muttered some profanities under his breath in his native tongue and nodded for the jedi to enter the ship.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Want a drink? Can you drink? I dunno whats the regulation with you guys..." Turkish asked, sitting down at the table in the common room. He poured himself some brandy from a tall flask and sat down.

Looking towards Zoronius he added. "So what's the next step? You were having an intense staring contest with that kid that was with Grennik. Did you find out anything?"

Balan hesitated before following Grennik onto the ship. He was so focused on changing his mind he hadn't noticed the drawn weapons until he turned to keep an eye on the thugs. He backed onto the ship, feeling foolish for his inattention. It had become a terrible habit, one he knew would eventually catch up with him.

Once they were both safely on the ship and the loading ramp was up, Grennik ordered his droid to lift off and put them into a low orbit. He needed time to figure out what to do next.

Balan, pacing in the lounge, heard Grennik's cursing and slamming things around echo through the ship. He didn't seem too pleased over the lack of a pay day. He didn't need the force to feel his disappointment and rage. He had weighter matters on his mind though. He wondered how he would complete his self-appointed mission. The interruption by the thugs had seemed like a dooming turn of events. After thinking it over for a while he realized it hadn't put an end to his quest. It was only a setback, a big one, but still only a setback.

He decided after some time to confront his "partner." He would make sure things moved ahead, no matter how much his companion wanted to keep the saber in his possession. He would keep his promise though, to get Grennik his reward. He'd do his reasonably best anyways. He first needed to find out what Grennik's plan was now.

He followed the noises of destruction and chaos to the newly cluttered kitchen. He was alarmed to see a large patch of red running down the far wall. He rolled his eyes and breathed a sighed of relief when he saw a broken jar of Alderaanian red sauce on the floor below. Grennik came around the corner from the small dining room. A partially eaten sandwich in his hand and the rest of it stuffed in his mouth, red sauce smudged around his mouth. His discontented speech was muffled by the food "what'dya want?"

Balan hesitated to stiffle a smirk, trying to not give him reason to go into another tirade. "I was just wondering what your next step was going to be." He swallowed his food and heaved a sigh. His reply had a condescending tone "T6 observed one of those Guerfels sticking a tracking device to the ship, we have to land a.s.a.p. to take it off. He found an unclaimed landing site, we'll be on the ground in 5 ticks. Be ready" he spat his last sentence and walked back to the ramp's exit. He didn't like being questioned by a kid. Balan glared back, but followed. There was no point to returning his tone.

There was no time to come up with much of a plan. This time though he would act. "It's time for a snatch and grab" Balan momentarily thought about the illiteracy of that term before preparing himself to carry out his plan.

Balan had followed Grennik up onto the top of his ship, interested in his progress on removing the tracking device, and to give him backup in case another group of eager entrepreneurs interrupted them. The device, the whole of which could fit in an average man's palm, adhered itself to the hull with a miniature magnet assembly. Grennik stood over it, scratching his chin and thinking. After a few moments he gave Balan an "ah ha!" look, and pulled out the lightsaber.

"You monks ain't the only ones who can use these you know" he said with a smirk. He lowered to one knee and prepared to destroy the device. He found the ignition plate, but before he could depress it Balan interrupted. "Wait!" he had no idea what to tell him, he didn't want to reveal his plan. After stuttering and pausing for a short while he forced the first thing out of his mouth. "Shouldn't we uh, use it?" Grennik cocked an eyebrow and shook his head thinking "whatever kid." He turned back to the device and ignited the lightsaber. It burned a bright, mesmerizing silver. Balan quietly gasped, he'd never seen the blade from a durindfire gem, only read about them. They were the stuff of legend, so rare, such a potent representation of he felt it meant to be a jedi.

He snapped out of his awe and remembered this was no time for gawking. The sight elicited an emotional response in him though, which was the last thing he needed to motivate him to make his move. He made one last look at Grennik, raising the vibrant blade.

He sprung forward ramming his heavy body into Grennik's side, grasping the lit saber with his left hand. The smuggler, caught off guard, barked "hey!" as he lost his balance and fell to one side. Balan brought his other hand to grab the saber and he wrestled it from his companion. He rolled away and rose to one knee, pushing off to reach the device and cut it out of the hull with the saber. Grennik was too fast though and after regaining his balance he whipped out his pistols and fired. Balan instantly adjusted and deflected the first three bolts out into the air, the last zinged by Grennik's eye. He jerked away shortly yelping, losing his balance again. Balan struck the hull just under the device, it cut partway through before slowing down. However, the blade instantly disrupted the device's magnetic assembly and it's hold was released. It almost fell into the blade, but Balan switched it off in time. Grennik recovered and fired again, this time at his feet. Balan raised one leg and hopped to one side, evading the bolts. He dipped down grabbing the device with his one free hand and reigniting the silver blade continuing to deflect bolts with his right.

He grasped the device firmly in his hand and felt a short burst of elation. Unexpectedly, blaster fire shot past Grennik and blackened the hull around his feet. He jumped back and hit the deck as the blaster fire continued. Balan risked a glance at the source of the blaster fire. A ship hovered above Grennik and him, lowering itself to Grennik's ship. A man armed with a blaster pistol stood on the open ramp. He yelled to Balan "get out of there kid!" Aiding himself with the Force and propelled by adrenaline Balan jumped off the ship and landed on the mystery helper's ramp. He surprised himself with the accuracy of his jump and landing. "Who are you?" he asked astonished, it appeared someone was actually trying to help him.

(Back on Turkish's ship)

"you were having an intense staring contest with that kid" Turkish said.

"Well I noticed through the Force that he was a trained Force user. I was taking a gamble on him being a Jedi. Luckily, that paid off, I think. It seems 'our friend' was a bit in over his head from the sound of it. Either that, or he was in circumstances out of his control. The Force is weird like that sometimes." Zoronius stated.

"So," Zoronius looks at Turkish's companion "how did you two meet? Oh and do any of you play dejarik?"

"So," Zoronius looks at Turkish's companion "how did you two meet? Oh and do any of you play dejarik?"

Turkish smirked. "Who, Kresh? We go way back. Used to be a slave on a planet in the outer-rim territories...Not exactly what I'd call a 'gladiator' but his size and strength do connect to the fact that he was constantly fighting for his life, entertaining his captors..." Turkish paused to drink a bit from his bottle, before continuing. "Anyways, I scammed his owner into selling him to me, set him free, and we both tore up the place. Now he's my first-mate on my ship. It happens."

Kresh hissed with delight. Turkish took another swig of some ale before continuing "Course, it takes more than just two people to keep this hunk of junk  operational. We've also got a full time pilot, and a nifty little engineer. They're on shore-leave but they'll rush back if I call 'em in if we need to get into orbit."

Turkish yawned, and stretched out his arms. "Speaking of which, I gotta go make sure their comm-links and tracking devices are still functioning. On places like Nar Shadaa, you gotta keep tabs on your people." He stood up and began walking towards one of the entryways that led to another part of the ship. He paused, then turned around once more to address Zoronious.

"Kresh plays dejarik. But I don't know if he likes you enough to want to play." he added. The large Trandoshan known as Kresh crossed his arms, adamant to not socialize with the visitor. Turkish gave a last shrug to Zoronious before disappearing down the hall in the ship.

"If there's any updates on that jedi-kid just let me know!" Turkish called out from down the hall to Zoro.

William glanced down at his crono; the arms spinning. He had set the auto pilot to lower down above the other ship. Looking out the blast window he could see nothing but the neon glow of the cityscape. The ship shook as the repulsers held the ship in place. He steps onto the ramp; hand already clasped on his blaster, and punches the activation switch.

Wind tugs at Williams hair as it escapes past him into the night sky. As the ramp lowers William could see Grenick and the kid standing on top the ship, light sabers in hand.

"They're Jedi?" William starred in shock.

Grenick is kneeing on the ground. The kid suddenly lunges forward at him; throwing his weight into Grenick's side.  The two struggle with for the light saber in Grenick's hand. The boy with a slight shift of his weight loosens Grenick's grasp; he falls over. The boy jumps back, tripping over his own feet, he stumbles and falls. Just then, Grenick reaches for his blaster and shoots at the boy. He deflects the blast with the light saber. William fires at Grenick, missing him as Grenick ducks and rolls to cover behind the deflector dish.

"Get the hell out of here kid!", William yells over the squeal of blaster fire.

The boy turns around, a puzzled look on his face; he runs toward William trying to regain his balance awkwardly, then suddenly his stance changes and he leaps through the air and lands gracefully on the ramp's center. The ramp groans from the weight.

With a look on his face born of shock and confusion William's cover fire slows to a stop.

"Who are you?" he asks William quizzically.

Blaster fire slams into the bulkhead between them and William realizes that Grenick is up and moving again. He ducks down to take cover behind the hydraulic lift, William reaches into a compartment in the lift wall and pulls out a spare blaster.

"I'm your ticket home" he says with a smirk. Tossing the blaster to the kid he asks, "you know how to use that thing?"

"Ya, but I ..."

William interrupts, "but nothing...keep him busy while I get us the hell out of here". William begins to head  towards the cockpit.

Just then, he hears the snap-hiss of a light saber behind him. He looks up and behind to see the boy straight faced with brows furrowed.

"Thanks for the lift, but really...who are you?" questions the boy.

"Calm down, let's not do anything hasty" William toyed as he backs up towards the pilots seat.

"Are you with those other guys?" the boy asks, following William as he sits.

"Not sure who your referring to, so I'm going to go with no". William turns around, gesturing for the boy to take the seat next to him. "My name's William Brody, I'm a Corsec Officer."

"A little far from home aren't you?" says the boy. William watches the boy in the window's glare as he lowers the light saber ever so slightly. William's shoulders loosen.

"Yeah, I am. No need to shower me with all this praise", William says as he pulls out his ID and passes it over his shoulder. He hears the hiss of the saber silence.

The kid collapses into the co-pilots chair with a sigh. William punches the accelerator and the force pulls them into their seats.

William narrows his gaze on the view in front of him ."You got a name kid?"

"Balan" he exclaims.

"Well...everything is gonna be fine, Balan" William shifts his focal point to the kid. "I'm making a break for space, I'll have you home before..."

"No wait!" Balan jumps to his feet. "We can't leave yet!" his voice saturated in panic.

"Okay okay, not leaving yet, got it... Why?" William's one brow raises.

"It's a long story, but basically there is someone kidnapping and killing Jedi and I have to find out who and stop them" Balan's face is grim. He sits back down in the chair.

"Is that all?" William says sarcastically with a scoff.

"I have a lead..." Balan's tone is desperate.

William is silent, staring; he waits for Balan to continue.

"I'm not leaving until I do this..." his voice trails off as he turns away from William, staring down at the light saber in his hand.

William realizes the boy is not going to elaborate. He asks, "what's your lead" with exasperation.

"Finaly!" he exhails, "someone who'll actually helps a guy out around here". He looks at William and shifts his gaze,  "you got a com?" as he holds out his hand, waiting.
