OCC reminder on Forum RolePlay
« on: May 10, 2011, 07:24:04 AM EDT »

((I see a lot of good RP and some good stories here...but something else I noticed is people speaking for other people's characters in dialog posts.  This is a big nono in forum RP that can be met with hostility if it is done to the wrong people.

Please make a conscious effort to refrain from speaking for other characters that are not your own or NPCs.  I know this may be done in an effort to move the story along, but keep in mind that you don't know how another person's character will react to what you say.  You need to wait for the person to actually respond in the forum.  That's unfortunately what makes forum RP sometimes tedious in nature, but it also keeps things fair to everyone involved.

Right now in RPing with your fellow guildies it may be okay, but if you do this when RPing with the other members of the saga guilds, more then likely there are going to be folks that will take offense to it.  Personally, if someone presumed to speak for my character, my kneejerk reaction is that I'd be a little miffed.

Let's try to put some good habits into force now so we can avoid conflict later! :) ))

Also, let's keep the main RP Forum "In-Character". I have created a sub forum for discussing OOC for your RP threads and miscellaneous subjects pertaining to RP.

Yeah if someone "godmodded" while RPing with me... that would be the last time I RPed with them.

I think I'm going to attempt to make my first role-playing story behind my character, Ianeon. Wish me luck!  :))

Goddmoding is where you take control of another persons character and make him do something that he other player has not decided to do.

Godmodding also means you play your character as all powerful, has a trick up his or her sleeve for EVERY possible situation and pulls stuff out of nowhere making it so you can never lose, or die, or anything.  God Modding = Meta gaming = Cheese Monkey.  Lots of names for the same thing.

I thought meta roleplaying was when you act and respond to things that your character does not know but the player does.

Like some guy is sneaking up behind me and I turn around even though my character is wearing earplugs and reading a book.

Yes that is what Meta Gaming is referring to, but they all kind of fall into the same group of undesirable occurrences during RPing and all are considered cheating in a way.

Thanks to all who have put together this thread.  It is obvious to me (first time MMO playre) that there are many aspect of which I was unaware.
