Above the Colosseum Roar (closed RP)

Arrun was impatient.

Although he was now newly inducted as a member of the Corellian League, he felt left out in some respects. The diplomatic mission to the far edges of Republic space seemed to be a trivial task that under-represented his skill.

Glad that it was finally over, he was in his quarters of Republic frigate, pacing and waiting to get in range with the large holocommunicator and report his success to the league. He hoped that such completed missions would grant him larger responsibilities.

Noticing that his emotions were getting to him, he quickly sighed and focused his mind. Clearing his head, he sat down to meditate to try and calm himself.

He didn't have much time though, and quickly got a knock on his door. Sighing, he got up to answer it. An officer greeted him at the door.

"My apologies master jedi. We are now in range to contact the League directly sir." he said "The rest of the team is being notified and will make their way to the conference room."

Arrun nodded. "Yes of course. I'll be right there" he said, containing his nervousness. He closed the sliding door and walked about the room, gathering necessary items like his tool belt and lightsaber.

After looking over his neat quarters and was satisfied with the arrangements, he made his way out the room and down the hall to the conference room, hoping to meet up with League members to report on the success of their current mission.

As he walked, it occurred to him that his anxiousness was deeper than originally anticipated. Although it was true that he was eager to complete his mission, there was a sense of concern he instinctively had as well. Something felt off, but he couldn't place his finger on it.

Shrugging it off, he entered the conference room first, and waited for his 3 fellow league members to arrive.

Leim gave vent to a huge sigh as he threw his knife into the piece of wood he'd set up to keep him somewhat entertained. These escort mission's were always a bore and left him too much free time to think and reflect.

As he walked over to retrieve his knife he caught sight of himself in the mirror. Because of his Mandolorian upbringing he rarely took his armor off while on a mission, even one as menial as an escort. Armor covered in blaster burns and scratches from everything from a knife to a lightsaber. His face didn't look much better with scars from a few knife fights in his youth.

After returning to his bed he began to slowly hone his knife before throwing it directly into the same spot on the wood.

A quick knock on the door stopped him midway to get his knife. Upon answering it he saw an officer standing with his hand raised to knock again.

"You need something?" Leim asked the officer, "Cause if not I'm in the middle of a very important competition to see how many times I can throw a knife into the same spot."

"I'm sorry to interrupt sir but the rest of your team is gathering to report to the League and we thought you should all be there." As the officer spoke he gave Leim a look that clearly said he couldn't figure out if Leim were joking or not.

"Right, I'll be there just as soon as I grab my knife." Leim replied as he walked over to his target, tugged the knife out and resheathed it on his shoulder. After slipping on his helmet he turned back to the officer, "Lead on mate, I'm right behind you."

Upon arriving at the conference room he noticed that he wasn't the first to arrive. Giving a half salute to Arrun, he automatically walked over to a spot that would give him a clear field of view for the entire room and also let him keep his back to a wall, a habit he'd picked up from his days as a bounty hunter.

Bril was in his quarters on a Republic frigate, he knew that he was asked to help the Corellian league with a mission, a diplomatic mission no less. The young smuggler had only agreed in the first place, because well he needed to at least appear partly interested in the league

A swishing sound was all that Varos heard before instinct took over. With an unnatural precision, Varos struck his opponent three times rapidly in key points. His opponent crumbled backwards, holding his ribs and gasping for air.

Varos grinned and motioned to him. " Seriously? You have a weapon and I don't. You can do better than that! Show me what you've got! "

The thug grumbled and pushed forward, trying another attack. His battered self was sloppy and uncoordinated, and Varos easily sidesteped him, following with a a knee to the chest and a hard arm-strike to the back. The thug crumbled to the ground, unmoving.

" Varos! Winner! " The large, indistinguishable creature announced. A smattering of applause from the various bystanders and his handler, Elc. Varos left the small fighting pit and knelt down for the Jawa to reattach his gladiator collar.

" Good! Good! You win! Why you fight stupid fights? You and Elc both know you better than riff-raff! " Elc praised and questioned Varos.

" Everyone deserves a chance to prove themselves, Elc. " Varos explained. " Sadly, that drek wouldn't last five minutes in the arena. "

" Yes! Yes! Agree with you completely. We go. New arena battle start soon. " Elc replied, trotting ahead of Varos.

" I'm already the champion of the district, Elc! I don't have... " Varos started, but Elc was already far enough ahead of him. He smiled and sighed, attempting to keep pace with Elc.

----

Some time later, Varos sat upon the crumbled wall of his home in the Outer City. Elc and Varos had lived there for well over two months, living as slummers and thugs would. Still, life was good for the gladiator; no one ever questioned or threatened him, especially because of the show he would put on in the arena. Praised and glory in the Outer City were his, and he was the favorite for his district for the Outer City Finals. Varos sat, gazing up at the orange and violet sky. It was a beautiful sight in the evenings.

" What you doing? " Elc asked, appearing from out of nowhere.

" I... I don't know, Elc." Varos confessed. " Sometimes I wonder what life beyond our world could be like. "

" Who knows? You kill, you win, you eat, you sleep, you kill some more. That life, yes? " Elc asked.
Varos couldn't help but chuckle. " Leave it to you to put things so simple. "

" Outer City Finals coming soon. Must train, be ready. We move to Inner City this year, yes? " Elc asked.

Varos nodded with determination. " We'll go right to the top, you and I. "

Sitting in the conference room, Leim thought back on the mission thinking about key points that might be discussed. As the holo came online Leim looked over at Arrun and noticed that he seemed to be meditating. Not wanting to interrupt Leim decided to get the debriefing started,

"As expected the mission was a success. We were able to secure trading rights with the Cartel and should be expecting the first shipment of weapons in a standard week. I'll let the others give you the details now."

As Trent and the smuggler were giving their own briefings Leim felt a slight tremble through the ship as though it were hitting some turbulence. Looking around he saw that Arrun had felt it too. Leim started to rush to the cockpit as the ship's alarm system began to sound but before he could make it out of the conference room an explosion shook the frigate and sent him into the door frame dazing him momentarily.

Leaning forward a bit after Liam had gotten things started, he outlined the basics of how the mission had progressed. They had been asked to escort an associate back to his home world and help him to get established in his new role as head of the government, one that the League would profit from an alliance with. They waited around just long enough to make sure everything was set and then they were back on their way home. As far as escort missions go it went pretty standard, no surprises.

As he was talking though a slight shudder went through the ship. There was nothing and then the alarm sounded closely followed by a large explosion. Trent reached out to grasp the table to keep from falling over. Flipping a switch to cut the transmission back to the League he called up to the bridge,

Bril stood there inside the conference room, as he listened to the debriefing. It was seeming like a fairly simple mission, an escort mission to be exact so it wasn
