Ever Faster, Ever Smoother...(Closed RP)
« on: September 20, 2011, 03:55:59 PM EDT »

His footfalls echo in the empty hall as he approaches the doorway he's been through hundreds of times before.

Norgrim Shadowgale kneels and meditates in the center of the room, many alcoves on along the walls. He pictures within his mind his emotions, spinning them together into a tight ball, tighter... Tighter... Until they're wound so tight that they are like a ball of emotional threads. Then he examines these emotions, searching for the filaments of raw anger or resentment or fear, peeling them away like threads from a spool, and cutting them away.

All this done within a mere moment, as this practice is something he's done hundreds upon thousands of times. Finally he meditates over all his emotions still wound into such a tight ball. His mind releases the ball and it explodes, all his emotions blasting away from the core that was hidden within. The core of peace, of balance... Of connection to the Force he cherishes higher than all connections in his life.

His eyes snap open and his mind goes into action.

The yellow eyes flash with light as a shadowy form before him activates a lightsaber. Without even waiting it charges, directly at Norgrim.

He hears in his mind the beginning of his personal mantra, one that speaks to him on a deep level when he's fighting, spurring him on.

Faster

His hand lifts up, grabbing the shadow by it's wrist around the lightsaber, letting it's charge continue through as he leans forward, pushing the dark thing over his head and past him. It tumbles a bit, taking a moment to right itself, blade still in hand as it turns around and approaches slower, it's glowing yellow eyes learning his movements and stance.

He lifts his hand and his lightsaber from the wall flies into it. He grips it and tests it's movements.

Smoother

The shade comes at him, and he flows around it, the figure rotating it's humanoid body around to clash sabers with him. They fight, Norgrim's motions becoming ever smoother, ever quicker, making the lightsaber blade blur with the speed. Suddenly his body kicks into motion, giving full spins and graceful yet deadly saber movements.

Faster! Smoother!

Sweat breaks out on Norgrim's brow, his eyes narrowing, his jaw setting. A look of intense concentration, drawn inwards. At himself.

FASTER! SMOOTHER!

His body seems to blur as his blade continues to battle with the conjuration, it's motions no longer able to keep up. He deals a killing blow, destroying the shadow. His breathing comes rapidly as sweat pours down his body from the effort.

His mind conjures another imaginary foe, still breathing the mantra into his mind over and over again. He continues his movements, blurring faster and faster as he channels the force through his body, internally strengthening himself with it's power. More foes begin to appear around him, manifesting only in his mind as sources of training and situations he's both read and experienced. His body moves as though of it's own will, deflecting imaginary blaster bolts while in the same movement parrying and slaying attackers.

His body flies through acrobatics, the first shadowy figure long forgotten as his drive to improve himself soars without restraint. His dark skin glistens with sweat, as he had come into the room dressed only in tight shorts for ease of movement. The scars on his body crisscross every direction, displaying the many battles he's survived.

Finally, every foe but one is vanquished.

This last foe fights with speed and precision. Exacting movements and shifting of forms like he's never seen.

He fights himself.

All his skill, all his power in the Force, all his intent is mirrored back before him, a self-examination and self-scrutiny to discover flaws and weaknesses within himself.

Finally, as is usual with this training, he comes to a draw, body and mind spent, the mental image of himself mirroring his hard breathing and slowing movements fading from existance.

Using the force he mentally shuts off his lightsaber, the switch hidden within it and created in a way so that only he would know how to turn it on. He clips it to a small ring on his shorts, then positions himself in a straight stance, palms together and does breathing exercises to regulate his breathing before exiting the room and heading for his room to clean himself up.

(RP location is on Corellia. Norgrim's current location is known to dependable allies of the Corellian Jedi.)

Norgrim shuts off the shower, examining his body. He's still surprised and greatful that his body has held up as long as it has for the 60 years he's been alive. He traces a few of his scars, memories of battles gone by flashing through his mind.

He takes his time getting dressed, repeating through his mind the code of the jedi once more, as he always did every time he dawned his robes.

There is no emotion, there is peace.
There is no ignorance, there is knowledge.
There is no passion, there is serenity.
There is no death, there is the Force.

Then he recites the original form, wondering not for the first time which tenet is the truest.

    Emotion, yet peace.
    Ignorance, yet knowledge.
    Passion, yet serenity.
    Chaos, yet harmony.
    Death, yet the Force.

He dons the green robes and nods to himself in a nearby mirror.

"Emotion, yet peace... Ignorance, yet knowledge... Passion, yet serenity... Chaos, yet harmony... Death..." He remembers all his friends who have died and nods, "Yet the Force."

He nods to himself, "Still sounds like the right one, even now."

He pulls up his hood and clips his lightsaber. Walking out through the corridors and out the door, his armor catches a glint as his hard boots hit the pavement. He had an appointment to keep.

Harper sighed.

Another day, another mission.

He woke up with another headache in the morning. It was the third time this week he was having vivid nightmares. He yawned and attempted to shrug it off.

While getting dressed, he noticed the burnt marks on his arm. Smuggler's Burn...a sign of incompetence, a sign of humility, a symbol of his past. Harper had learned from his mistakes, and now it was time for him to move on and move forward, doing what he does best.

Finally putting on his helmet, he left the barracks head held high, cocking his rifle. Its been a few weeks since he had an assignment, so he grabbed the first one available. Taking a speeder, he made his way to the hangar to meet the rest of his team.

For about 2 or 3 years now, Harper had been a part of the Corellian League. He knew that these missions required the best of the best, and oftentimes the strangest of allies. Although he didn't know anyone on the mission roster personally, it was going to be the start of a new team and hopefully some new friendships within the league.

Harper was confident, but also didn't know what to expect. The uncertainty bothered him.

"I've got a bad feeling about this..." he muttered, making his way to the hangar to meet the team

Jibrael absently fingered the scars on his arm as he waited anxiously for the rest of the team to show up. The grease residue on his fingers darkened the circle of the scar tissue, turning it a dull black color. He'd been told to meet in Hanger Bay 3 with the rest of the team for deployment. Since he rarely left the hangers where he worked on his ship constantly, he simply walked from Hanger Bay 5 to 3 to wait. Almost immediately, he decided to check the ship the team would be in, making any last minute adjustments he saw were necessary. While working on the ship wasn't exactly the most fun, it was the only time he could actually focus without the sharp knives jabbing his grey matter.

He let his mind wander back to the first time he was approached by the Correllian League. Chuckling he recalled just how little he knew about anything, such was his amnesia, much less the keys to the salvation of Correllia. Over the weeks and months since joining he lurked in the shadows watching, with great scrutiny, how the League operated. He'd also found himself in good company, with most of the members asking very little questions about who he was or where he came from. The memories had come back, not with a flood like he'd hoped, but trickling painfully slow.

Jibrael had allowed himself to be placed in the category of smuggler, as it offered the easiest route to mobility without having to divulge information he didn't have. He'd picked up mechanics and flight aspects with great ease, leading him to believe he'd had training before. A couple of late night drunken target practice sessions with fellow members had proven him capable of handling a blaster or scattergun, and one of them had even called him the "Shotgun Surgeon". He'd done mostly small missions gathering information and resources for the League, getting into the groove of working with a group this large. He'd learned the history of the League, and had actually replaced the hole in his chest with some approximation of love for the League. He was actually anxious to be selected for something of more importance and that surprised and delighted him. It felt like a sincere emotion, one that came from his root, and not his surroundings.

A shout from a nearby worker brought him back to the present. Here was his first full fledged mission for the Correllian League. Per instruction, he and his comrades would receive information from the team lead, a man he'd never met before named Nogrim. He grimaced habitually, at the thought of all the rigid rules he had to conform to, but reminded himself of the goal.

The ship they were to depart on was prepped and ready. Sighing, Jibrael picked up a hydrospanner, and began tapping out a tune on a nearby toolbox, while a droid scooted along the pathway up to the Control Room. When that got boring, he pulled out a deathstick and lit it up, hoping to finish before the Jedi showed up.

Zabrak skin wasn't suited for cold weather and Celadon knew it. In addition to his Jedi robes and light armor, he had made sure he had brought along some extra insulation. If he needed more, he could just cut down a tauntaun and fashion some more. A mission to Hoth wouldn't be appealing for most, but he had come along out of curiosity. The Jedi master in charge was reputed to be one of the best combatants in the Jedi Order. An opportunity to serve under him could only increase his own prowess. He wondered what a veteran of so many battles thought, how he would feel, what he would do in the heat of conflict. Soon enough he would know.

He entered the doorway and saw the smuggler known as Jibrael fidgeting and smoking a deathstick just a few feet from him. Although on Iridonia, behavior like that warranted a swift slap to the side of the head followed by a reproach, he reluctantly put aside his initial thoughts. "We're not on Iridonia, and you're not alone on this mission," he reminded himself.

Celadon approached Jibrael and extended a hand that unintentionally gripped like a vice. "Celadon. I hate cold weather, but I like hunting Imperials. So as long as you're here for the same thing, you can smoke whatever you want."

Looking down at the smuggler's blaster, he noticed that it had seen some action. "If you need you need some recalibration on your scope, let me know. I've also got some spare lenses if you need them."

Ceid laid on his stomach on a messy bed in a dark room. He had just woken up from the worst sleep he had ever had in his life. His head ached and his neck was sore. As he pushed his heavy body off the bed, his communicator rang. He got up and placed his hand over his shoulder and spun his head around, cracking his neck. He groaned in pain and annoyance as his head nagged on him more when he did so. He walked up to the Com link placed on the counter next to his bed and answered.

"Ankoun." He said with a disinterested voice.

"Mr. Ankoun, this is your 8 am wakeup call." A woman spoke with a soft voice.

"I'm up." Ceid answered as he cut off the connection and threw the device over his shoulder. It landed on the bed.

He moved closer to the mirror attached to the wall in front of him and leaned closer. He stood bare chested, only waring the pants he always wore. He saw the bruises and cuts on his chest and stomach. He had just completed a mission yesterday and only been on Corellia for less than a day when he accepted his next assignment. That is what his life had become, work, assignments, and the pursuit of a pointless goal that would never bring him peace if accomplished. That is how it's been since...

"Bah!" He said angrily, dismissing the thought and proceeded to the personal shower.

When he was done, he got dressed and went on his way to Hanger bay 3. It wasn't a long walk from his apartment to the Spaceport, but he did stop by his favorite Caff shop. Ceid got a quick bit to eat and then continued to his destination.

"Lets get this over with." He said as he reached the Spaceport.

"I I It's s s so c c cold," Inun said to himself as he walked the frozen planet. he had been walking for about an hour since he left Seku with destiny to look for help. All he had on was his pants, shoes and a really thin T shirt, Inun was supposed to be delivering some Andris to some Imperial base probable for some of the new recruits that were on hoth but he got shot down from a space battle going up ahead, he thought that he might be lucky enough to find a Republic outpost before he and Seku froze or starved to death. But now he was wishing that he had stayed with the with her were it was warm at least they would be together, he knew if he kept wandering Hoth like this without having found anything than they would probably die.

Inun decided to try and forget about the extreme cold as he wandered Hoth by playing Pazzak in his head, but he wasn't having any luck. "O o one f f foot, t t than t t the o o other," he kept saying to himself just to keep his spirits up. As Inun wandered he kept moving his fingers, toes anything with fear of them freezing up if he didn't. " O o one f f foot, t t than t t the o o other," that's all that he had to do. " O o one f f foot, t t than t t the o o other," was all that he could do, with his body begging for him to stop, begging for a minutes rest; Inun pushed himself onwards knowing if he did stop even for a minute, there was a chance that they both could die.

Just a minute after Jibrael's deathstick burnt out, Norgrim's shape could be seen in the entryway of the Hangar Bay. Slowly he walked, his eyes looking up from under the hood of the cloak into every corner, his awareness reaching out for anything out of the ordinary. He felt a presence within the hangar and scanned the people moving back and forth between their duties and some who were standing around.

He pulled out a datapad and pressed a few buttons on it, a dossier of some of the people coming up for his viewing. He recognizes a few of the faces, including two already in the hangar. He nods to himself, walking up near Jibrael and Celadon nearby.

He smiles genuinely to Jibrael and Celadon then he looks around, not seeing anyone else in the hangar yet. He looked at his watch. 0630. He had a bit of time, as the takeoff time wasn't until 0830. He was hoping everyone would arrive by 0800.

"Jibrael and Celadon? My name is Norgrim Shadowgale, Jedi Knight. It's a pleasure to meet you." He nodded to Jibrael. His eyes carried to Celdon, noticing a pair of lightsabers hanging from his belt. He gave a slighly deeper nod, acknowledging him as an equal silently.

"Jibrael and Celadon? My name is Norgrim Shadowgale, Jedi Knight. It's a pleasure to meet you." A voice said up in front of Harper. As he approached, he noticed the 3 people waiting in the hangar area; one, who had already introduced himself as Norgrim, a smuggler finishing his deathstick, and Celadon; an old friend of his since he had joined the league.

"Hm. Lack of troopers...as always..." Harper muttered. A member of the League for two years now, Harper over time came to understand that he'd be working with a lot of jedi. He trusted league members to all be skilled fighters, there was no doubt about that. He just wished there was more people like him; troopers, volunteers, to defend the Republic. The army was his life once, but now he felt like he truly belonged in the League, a place where the missions would be vital in shaping the future of the galaxy.

He also took comfort in the fact that one of his old companions, Celadon,  would be assisting in this mission. Maybe he wouldn't feel as alienated from the group after all.

Helmet tucked under one arm, he spoke up. "Gentlemen." he said firmly, nodding. He nodded and gave a smirk to Cel. Simple and to the point. He stood their silently, back straight and feet firmly planted on the ground: not standing in attention like a typical line soldier, but definitely a more commanding militaristic stance. He waited for the others to arrive.

The hanger bay doors slid open, and a well outfitted jedi strode in. Unfortunately for him, the effects of the death stick were peaking, causing this Zabrak's energy to fume off of him like steam. The sharp reds undulating into burnt auburn, looked to Jibrael like flames of power, and he had to remind himself it was all in his head. Cursing under his breath, he took one last drag and put the stick out on his boot. As the jedi approached, he spoke.

"Celadon. I hate cold weather, but I like hunting Imperials. So as long as you're here for the same thing, you can smoke whatever you want." Jibrael smiled faintly, and nodded in acknowledgement. "If you need you need some recalibration on your scope, let me know. I've also got some spare lenses if you need them."

"Thanks, I think this old thing could use some attention." he said, passing over the blaster to Celadon.

As the jedi moved to disassemble the scope, the doors of the hanger bay once again slid open and an older Jedi walked in. Jibrael saw that his colors were less fiery, more of a deep calm blue.

He smiled at Jibrael and nodded, saying, "Jibrael and Celadon? My name is Norgrim Shadowgale, Jedi Knight. It's a pleasure to meet you."

"Pleasure's all mine," Jibrael said, returning the handshake that Nogrim extended.

The doors were opening with greater frequency now, announcing the arrival of the rest of the team. Jibrael stifled the urge to begin with the questions, and let Nogrim take his natural place as lead. A trooper walked up, and he recognized him from the halls of the league. Jibrael smiled a bit more, intending to watch him closely.

Celadon nodded in response to Norgrim. Such calm, he thought. He would have time for questions but being a good teammate came first.

The problem was easy to fix. After disassembling the scope, he found that his lens indeed had seen better days. He reached to his pack and took out his maintenance kit. He found the proper sized lens and placed it into the scope. He then took out his metal bristle brush and started cleaning the inside of the barrel. After a couple of minutes, he held the blaster up into the light and handed it back to Jibrael.

"I gave you a little upgrade. I fashioned that lens myself out of Iridonian Calzite. You should have an extra 10M or so of range on your sight. Plus I took the liberty of removing the carbon scoring at the end of your barrel."

A trooper walked in and acknowledged the group. "Gentlemen."

Celadon still began to return his tools to his kit. "Up for another adventure, are we Ames?."

He looked at the pristine assault rifle seated under his arm. "I'd ask if you needed some help with your rifle, but knowing you, you've got that in order. If it wasn't for your firearm, Captain, I might be lying face down in a canyon somewhere on Tatooine."

Ceid went through the door to the hanger were the rest of his teammates waited. He felt a few sentients eyeing him, so he check the time on his communicator as he walked towards them. It was 08:10, he was late and has delayed the mission.

He was still so tired and the pain was bearable but hard to hide at times. He made no eye contact with anyone. He just stood in front of the group as he ran his hand back and forth over his chest, massaging it a little bit.

"O o one f f foot, t t than t t the o o other, h h how h h hard c c could i i it b b be," he said to himself as he pushed forward. Inun was nearly to his limits, if he got any weaker he wouldn't be able to take another step. So he wrapped his arms around his chest and talk one step than another, his steps were shrinking in size, fast. "C c come o o on I I Inun o o one f f foot, t t than t t the o o other," he was begging his body at this point, he had lost movement in his toes and fingers.

His knees had the wobbles, his chest kept on tightening up causing difficulty to breath making his breath hard and long. He wondered what it would be like to actually die out here on Hoth, the snow would cover your body up and no one would even know.
