OOC Thread: "The Trap (Close RP)" Discussion Thread

The Corellian League council's top operative within Imperial ranks went off the grid three months ago, and they were unable to find a trace of him until recently. They received a signal with his personal transmission codes embedded within it. The council was able to trace the signal to a derelict Imp. ship, holding position behind the dark side of the farthest planet from Corell in Corellian Space.

The council sent a team to investigate the source of the signal. As the council member Director Quyn Vigil was the missing operative's handler, she was put in charge of the mission. She assembled a team consisting of Ceid Ankoun as lead member in charge of the boarding party, Nysa Mayne due to her extreme familiarity with Imperial ships, CoreSec Captain Loyheta Vassik and the Jedi Celadon Vohl and Saron Noko. Also she brought Trooper Captain Amasro Harper and four troopers under his command, just in case the poodoo hit the fan.

The team was briefed on the mission by the Director, and at 09:00 hours, they headed to the shuttle and got settled. They reached the approximate vicinity of the signal at 10:30 hours and began their approach of the Imperial ship.

Quyn sat in the pilots chair watching the stars of lightspeed streak by with a bored non-interest, her head propped in her hand on the console.  Just wasn't the same as from her own familiar viewport...and by far less impressive in her opinion.  She hated these missions that forced her into piloting these old Corellian shuttles.  She preferred the more modern designs...She fiddled with a stray piece of hair that had fallen into her eyes.

It was going to be a short jaunt, they weren't even leaving the system...but if anything was waiting for them, she'd rather have them by surprise when they come out of lightspeed and make a break for it rather than be seen coming...just in case their spy network wasn't as trustworthy as they thought.

The nav computer light/alarm started to sound and she sat up ready to take control of the ship from the computer.  She called back to the passangers,  "Looks like we're coming up on Soronia folks, hang tight, I'm takin' her out of hyperdrive."

Ceid walked into the shuttle's cockpit after the Director called for them just in time to see Soronia pop onto the view screen, he then felt the Hyperdrive engines go off-line. The white, blue and silver rock of frozen ice might have been almost lifeless except for a few mines under the surface, but it was beautiful from space.

Ceid walked forward a few steps and stood behind Quyn. "Breathtaking! What a view. Your lucky, you get to do this often." Ceid jokingly said to his young boss with a smile.

Saron sat in the co-pilot's seat, having to do minimal work thanks to Quyn's expertise in flight. He sat back, gazing out at the bright streaks of hyperspace. He placed his right hand on the holster strapped to his thigh. It had been a while since he last donned his House attire, or possessed a lightsaber. He no longer wore a robe and cloak; but rather a vest, shirt, trousers and boots. But he still needed time to think. Hopefully, the Grand Master would be patient with him.

Still, he had to focus. It still felt strange to him, working under orders from other than the Council of First Knowledge or the High Council. Drowned in his thoughts, he did not even notice that Quyn had deactivated the hyperdrive until she called out to the group. He blinked, and looked out of the viewport.

Soronia. The moonless planet in the Corellian system. Eyeing it wearily, he heard Ceid comment on the view. He disagreed. The frozen, dead surface reminded him too much of Ilum. Slightly shaking his head, he pulled his pistol out of the holster, examining it and ensuring it was in working condition. He wouldn't be joining the landing party, but it was his job to keep the shuttle safe.

She had to admit it to herself, seeing Saron Noko out of Jedi robes was a little strange, seeing him without a lightsaber was even stranger.   During the whole flight, Nysa refrained from comment, she knew she was only here because the mission involved the Sith and it's technology, and was here as a technical advisor.   She would never actually be a member of The Corellian League, not in the way nearly all of the others were, and she envied that.   She also had had troubled relations with a few of the people onboard.

Putting those thoughts aside, Nysa turned her thoughts back to the mission at hand.  What was a new Imperial ship doing in the Corel system?  How did it get there previously undetected?  Why was this particular agent so important?

Nysa knew such questions would be answered in due time, at their own pace.   Hearing Ceid exclaim about the view, Nysa leant forward to see better out of the viewport.  Indeed Soronia was beautiful, and cold.

Walking towards the cockpit Loyheta heard the pilot announce their arrival. Looking out the front he saw the streaks of passing stars disappear as they returned to normal space.

Loyheta had trust in the pilot due to her performance in their recent endeavor. There were some familiar faces on board. Ceid, his good friend from years back and the person who requested Loy to be on the task-force. Saron, a skilled fighter who accompanied them on the last guild assignment. They, as well as the young pilot, had all experienced a hectic battle while on Balmorra months back.

Walking towards a bench, he took a seat. "Now all we have to do is somehow get on board without being caught. A ship of this size will be manned."

Looking down Loy examined his new silver Beskar armor one last time. He had made this shortly after returning from Balmorra and he even tried something new. He had ordered a large amount of Cortosis ore to layer on his left vambrace. He had tested it multiple times and he was successfully able to short out lightsabers on contact. It had been very expensive and took weeks to craft, but it should be well worth it.

Amasro Harper sighed, and took of his helmet. He look at his group with mild curiosity.

Specially requested to take part in this mission, Harper was already trying to impress his superiors, and other league members on the same ship. Sitting in the common area with the rest of his troopers, he began encouraging his team to contribute as much as possible. He also wanted to reassure his teammates.

"Now I know this is a big first-time mission for some of you," Harper began "but just remember to focus on the task at hand, and watch your backs. All of you should be fine. Try and think of it like just another RTS or small mission."

Kerrick Minn chuckled, and continued to clean his rifle, disinterested in Harper's words. Riyec Noble and Voren Odan gave a firm nod in response, but Kely Solari, the rookie on the team, seemed a bit hesitant.

Harper placed his hand on her shoulder. "Just stick with me and you'll be fine." Harper said, trying to reassure her once more. She nodded, and forced a smile.

Over the intercom on the ship, Quyn had announced their approach to Soronia. Harper quickly glanced at his teammates once more before deciding to make his way to the cockpit.

Few would be able to decipher that the steaming pile of melted circuits and metal that lay at his feet was once a 'heavy duty" combat remote.  The Republic issue battle armor Celadon Vohl had laid aside was in no better condition, having been fried from the inside out. Needless to say, he had gotten a little carried away in his last-minute training exercise. Although his mastery of Juyo techniques had grown significantly, so has the number of equipment requests to the local Republic outfitters. This latest seeker remote was a victim of a Force induced overload from his master's old lightsaber. The well-worn lightsaber, though used only for practice, was affixed on his belt next to his own: a newer version but an exact handmade replica.

Luckily he had brought along some heirloom light armor as a spare. Although not as durable against blaster fire as Republic battle armor, he felt a renewed sense of vigor putting it on, as if his ancestors were alive in the Iridonian armor itself.

As he lay his equipment up against the rear bulkhead, he could tell that the shuttle had seen better days. Hearing the pilot's voice over the intercom and the notable disinterest in her voice, it was likely she came to the same conclusion.

Before heading toward the cockpit, he performed the same pre-hunting ritual that was passed down from his father and his father before him. He mentally recited a Zabrak war prayer, bending low to the ground...crouching as if to pounce. As Celadon got up to move toward the cockpit, he let the last words of the prayer escape his lips.

"Happy hunting to us all."

Sublight engines kicked in returning them to normal space...Quyn took the controls flipping it over to manual flight.  As she did so, she glanced over her shoulder as she realized the cockpit had suddenly gotten crowded as everyone started moving in.  She raised and eyebrow for a brief moment before turning back to the task at hand.

She glanced up at Ceid with his comment of the planet. "You really need to get out more..." she said with a grin.

With the controls being changed to manual multiple dials awakened in front of Saron and she nudged his arm "Hey you awake over there?  Time to work now.  Anything on scopes, any other ships?"

She didn't see anything...but sometimes looks can be deceiving.

She maneuvered down and started making their way to the dark side, where this derelict ship rested.  It wouldn't be long now.

"You really need to get out more..."  Quyn said with a grin.

Ceid shot a smile to Quyn. "I only go out when you are piloting. You take me to the nicest places!" Ceid said sarcastically.

The director nudged Saron and told him to get to work. Ceid looked at Saron and saw that he was preoccupied, he was not acting like himself today. Ceid then crossed his muscular arms and looked out of the view screen as the shuttle made it's way to the dark side of Soronia. "Where is it?" He whispered under his breath.

After confirming the pistol was in working condition, Saron stared at his father's old service pistol inattentively. Memories of Ilum flooded his mind, the cold touch of the corruption seeming to come to realization just from the thoughts.

He nearly gasped when he felt Quyn nudge him. Nodding his head, he holstered his blaster and sat up. His eyes darted across the console, looking for any trouble.

"Nothing. It's completely silent," he replied.

Glancing up at the view port, he scanned the empty space as the shuttle approached the dark side of the planet. Nothing. If there was a derelict ship around here, it was not giving off any detectable traces of energy that the shuttle could pick up; but he felt increasingly uneasy as the view in front of the cockpit darkened. He did not know if it was his memories, the darkness or something else that was causing his anxiety. Still, he kept silent as he looked out for the ship.

"Nothing. It's completely silent."

Overhearing this from Saron, Nysa leant forward again, looking through the cockpit into the star studded blackness of space.

"That's because you're looking for the wrong thing Saron.   Look instead for something darker than the black behind it.  Also set the scopes to look for the unique signature of Imperial metallurgy.  Which is...."

Nysa leaned then into the cockpit and over Saron's shoulder and tapped the once familiar keys.  "... that.  The Empire uses some interesting ways of forging metal and as a result, it leaves telltale signs that we tried to counter over the years, that are completely unique to... it..."

Stuttering to a halt, looking around, Nysa realized she had an audience of a few people who she didn't know looking at her as if for the first time, and a couple of glares.   Without further ado, she sheepishly sat back down in the passenger compartment.

Sitting on the bench, Loy watched the other members. He Watched the unfamiliar woman reach over and mess with the radar's parameters and ramble on about Imperial metalwork. He watched as she looked around uncomfortably and sit down.

Ceid had mentioned they had a former Imperial coming along. Loy felt the force was strong within her... I hope this doesn't make Pride uncomfortable.

Loy pulled out his saber and started examining it. Feels a lot lighter now that I made the hilt case out of Beskar... I need to get some better quality for the grip though...

Looking out the front he saw the blackness on the planet dark side as well as many stellar bodies lighting up sky. "Space looks beautiful from near the center of the galaxy."

Upon arriving to the cockpit, Harper noticed how it was starting to get crowded inside there. He leaned in the doorway, arms folded across his chest, watching as the team looked upon the planet and galaxy with amazement.

"Nothing, it's completely silent." Saron said, as he scanned the console. The one called Nysa leaned forward and began lightly lecturing him.

"... that.  The Empire uses some interesting ways of forging metal and as a result, it leaves telltale signs that we tried to counter over the years, that are completely unique to... it..." she had concluded in her lecture, as she took over the controls for a few seconds.

Harper stood there silently, watching the group as they were casually talking to one another. The mission officially hadn't even started yet, but Harper felt that tensions or a sense of awkwardness was already present within the group.

Some of these poeple I haven't even worked with... he admitted to himself. He watched with mild curiosity as Loyheta examined his lightsaber. Harper knew that each member of the group was worth their salt, but was starting to wonder whether they could work together as a team.

Harper sighed and continued to look out towards the planet they were rapidly approaching, wondering what they were gonna find down there.

Celadon was the last to make his way toward the front of the ship. As he drew closer, he heard the annoying din of idle chatter. As reached the doorway, he saw a familiar figure leaning up against the doorway.

The only name he recognized in the roster during the mission briefing happened to be the only person he had worked with before and maybe the only person in his missions he deemed worthy to call "friend." As he came up behind him, he expected to see the same friendly eyes that always greeted him. Instead, he saw those eyes fixed on the human woman in Jedi robes sitting on the port side of the cockpit, just behind the pilots. He had missed the conversation, but apparently she was the highlight of it. Her beauty was almost as striking as the dark conflict that emanated from inside her.

Still in the hallway behind him, Celadon spoke to the trooper just within earshot, "A girl again, Ames? Is this gonna turn out more like the flirty barmaid in Bela Vistal or that 'too-attractive-too-pass-up' bounty hunter in Coronet City?
